English Speaking for Communication of TNI Students

english is an essential language to the field of education. It is found many syllabi in science and engineering are written in English. Because it is the dominant language in the sciences, most of the research and studies will be written in it as well. At the university level, students in many countries study almost all their subjects in English in order to make the material more accessible to international students [1]. English is a significant language and is needed in everyday life. English communication plays an important role in international communication. Speaking skills are the most important skills in communication. Because it is a skill that shows the speaker has clearly language knowledge. Because speaking skill is a skill that the communicator is conveying and understanding through the use of language to communicate in everyday life Speaking skills is necessary to know and to practice skillfully. Many students study English at elementary school but they cannot communicate with native speakers This research focused on a study of ability in TOEIC test taking related to English speaking for communication of TNI students in second semester of 2016 academic year which consisted of population and samples as follows.https://speakinenglish.in/ A.Population and Samples 1) The population was first year students at Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology in second semester of 2016 academic year. There were 900 students from Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Business Administration, and Faculty of Engineering. 2) The samples consisted of 70 students and were derived from a simple random sampling technique. For the process of samples collection, the 23 students were chosen from faculty of Information Technology, the 23 students were collected from Faculty of Business Administration, and the 24 students were originated from Faculty of Engineering. B.Variables Variables in this study were as follows: 1) The TOEIC test taking ability 2) The English communication ability 3) The relation between TOEIC test taking ability and English communication ability of the learners C.Research Instruments 1) English proficiency test: The tests consisted of 200 items which were separated into 2 parts; reading (100 items) and listening (100 items). The duration of the test was 120 minutes. Five experts examined, corrected and improved the accuracy, validity and reliability of the language and contents of the test. The test had a difficulty level between 0.20-0.80 and a rank of discrimination at 0.20 or over. The value of the test reliability was at 0.87. Then, the proficiency test was used to sampling of the research. 2) English speaking for communication test: The test consisted of 2 parts; general questions and selected topics. Five experts examined, corrected and improved the accuracy, validity and reliability of the language and contents of the test. The value of the test reliability was at 0.96. D. Data Analysis The collected data was analyzed using computer program. The correlation (r) was employed to compare the TOEIC test taking ability and English communication ability of the learners. The mean, standard deviation and frequency of scores from the TOEIC test and English speaking for communication test were used to compare the students’ ability.
